It's all about modifying someone's negative behavior and setting boundaries, and it sounds like you're well on your way in helping her to see what is acceptable and what is not. I think your reponse to her was well balanced and respectful.

Hey swamp,
I visit the site because of the common bond found between former JW?s. I am not in any way (mentally, emotionally, spiritually, etc) attached to the Watchtower Society. I also enjoy being able to give assistance to those who may be struggling with the mind control of the organization.
As to your other comment, I am in agreement with you. I have long believed that there exits the type of personality that needs to be told what to do, think, say, wear, behave, etc. This is the prime reason why I left when I became of age. I didn?t know who I was as a kid, but looking back in retrospect, I could have never been a JW by my own choice. My mother heavily influenced me, as well as the JW engine that drives the whole thing. I am not the type of person that can be told what to do with my life. I make my way in this world and nobody can tell me what to with my life, anymore. However, I do think that there does exist the type of personality that needs this kind of structure in their life. It?s these poor folks that have the hardest time with leaving the cultic groups like the Watchtower Society.

I was raised a JW from the age of about seven or so, and left officially at about twenty-three. I am now forty-eight. In all the time hence, I have ventured into a number of religious ideologies (including Christianity). I see my spiritual connection with God as an evolutionary one. I pick up, and I discard ideals concerning Him as my life continues to unfold, and this learning process will probably never end (at least I hope not). I will never again allow anyone or any group to "tell" me who God is, and that includes those fellows who wrote the bible. That doesn?t mean that God can?t be found in the old manuscript, but I keep in mind that it still was written by flesh and bone. It seems to me that people tend to worship the scriptures as much or maybe even more in some cases than they do God Himself.
I hold this belief, and it is cardinal to me: I know, in every fiber of my being that God is real and exists. I know that He knows who I am. And I know that He loves me.
Everything else to me is just religiosity

Another question for all you guys out there
by Lehaa inok time to be brutally honest.. what do guys think of women with tattoo's.
first thing that jumps into your head.. reason i ask is i'm getting my first one next week and was wondering what the general concensus is.. i am definately sure about doing it.
thought about it for years and it took me 6 months to find the design i wanted.

Ok, I know I?m an old fuddy duddy, but I don?t like tattoos on chicks. When I was a kid (I?m 48), only guys had tattoos, so I don?t see it as feminine. Sure, I realize that times change, but when I see a tattoo on a woman, it?s a turn off for me. Sorry. And by the way, that tattoo you put on your body is there for life. I hope you like it, cuz its gonna be there when you?re a grandma. Everyone must choose there own path, but I see tattoos as a fad and I think that those who have them now (girls I mean) will regret having them later on in life.
I love an untarnished untattooed body of a beautiful woman. Why spoil it with ink?

Attn: Formidable Apostates
by Bubbamar ini read the thread yesterday about apostates and started wondering about your families.
i am thinking about writing a letter to my mom and sharing with her some of the things i have learned about the jw's but also realize that this will make me an apostate and will worsen an already distant and painful relationship.
i am hoping that some of you will share your experiences on what impact your outspoken "apostacy" has had on your families - how have they reacted to you.

Hey Bub,
I wouldn't recommend you getting into this with your mom. For one, in her eyes, your are the child and its difficult for the teacher (as she sees herself in your relationship) to accept a lesson from the student. Secondly, most JW's that I have talked with over the years, must be in a place where they are receptive to any information that may be considered negative about the Society.
You really take a chance on alienating your mom, in the process of helping her to see the truth about the Watchtower Society. Resist the temptation.

Can we say anything good about the WTS?
by iiz2cool ini'm trying to develop a more positive attitude, so i'm trying to look for the good in everything, even the wts.
i think jws are good for the economy because:.
1. they spend money in tim hortons which provides employment for people and helps boost the economy.

-Don't fight in wars ( if everyone did this, think how good that would be)
I wonder how the Jews who were liberated at Aushvitz felt about those who fought for their freedom during the war?
This concept of the WBTS?, that they don?t fight in wars sounds real nice on the surface, but in the real world it doesn?t work. Not all war is justified, but as long as there are those who come into power who want to threaten the world and it?s inhabitants, then there will be those who will take up arms to stop them. Its not a nice neat little bundle, but sometimes it?s (war) the only answer. If it were not for the USA and its Allies during WW2, today we might have to say Hiel Hitler at every turn.

Can anyone help me? Loved one being torn away
by heart broken ini am not going to divulge any names or contact details as i do not what this being taken much further.. i will cut to the chase, i have fallen in love with a jehova's witness.
i am not a jehova's witness... can you see where this is going?
i have been told that her being in love with me is strictly against jw "policy"... now, i have been scowering the net for days now, becomming increasingly insomniate and i have to admit, i have found nothing to support this warning.

Any non-JW person planning on developing a relationship with a JW, is a train wreck waiting to happen. You're probably gonna do what you want to anyway (pursue her), but at least you have been warned. Anyway, this "love" thing you feel doesn't last, it's just life's way of perpetuating the species. When the lust of it is gone, you'll have nothing left but regret.
Find another girl.

Why go in the first place? I don't get it. That's three days of your life you're not gonna get back.
Instead, why not: Go to the beach. Take a long hike. Take off and go to the mountains. Go on a long bike ride. Go to Disney World. Go and enjoy a bunch of movies you've been wanting to see. Plan on visiting some old friends. Learn to Knit. Spend a few days at the library. Go and see some family. Paint your bathroom that color you've always wanted. Hell, stay home and watch a Gilligan's Island marathon, but don't go to another boring mindless Watchtower Society get together.
